About Elizabeth King

Elizabeth King is an author, teacher, and strategist based out of Palm Beach and New York. She is the author of the industry-acclaimed Outsmarting the SAT (Ten Speed 2008) and co-author of Winning the Customer with Lou Imbriano (McGraw Hill 2011). Elizabeth’s work revolves around examining and cultivating personal development, critical thinking, quality culture, creativity, intelligence, and learning. She investigates these themes throughout her work – within her own writing, her professional partnerships, and her  consulting projects. Many of her ideas debut on her blog StayOutOfSchool.com and may appear tailored for education at Education Debate at Online Schools.

As a leader in tactical thinking and practical preparation for college entrance tests, Elizabeth creates content about mental toughness, study strategy, and concrete test preparation tactics and has prepared articles for Unigo/Wall Street Journal on Campus. The US Olympic team highlighted her interviews with Olympic gold medalist Barbara Ann Cochran about applying mental toughness to test taking. Her thoughts on testing and education have been referenced in the NY Times, Wall Street Journal on Campus, Oprah Sirius Radio’s Derrick Ashong Experience, the Wired Marketing Hopkinson Report, and she is currently highlighted as a star of “Generation Flux” in Fast Company. Elizabeth has been coaching students to maximize their SAT and ACT scores for nearly a decade. She has extensive experience with students with ADHD, learning disabilities, and concussion. She is also able to meet the needs of special populations: she has worked with deployed military servicemen and women and currently works with a member of the U.S. Olympic team.

A graduate of Mount Holyoke College, Elizabeth holds an interdisciplinary major that incorporates Economics, Mathematics, Art History, and Studio Art. Elizabeth was a proud recipient of a Mount Holyoke College Class of 1905 Alumnae Fellowship and a Mount Holyoke College Bardwell Fellowship.
