Corrections

I’ve created a little printable PDF file of mistakes you may come across in OUTSMARTING. You can find it here.

A few of you have taken the time to write in with some questions about what’s in the book (or just flat out offered corrections). If you have something to add please feel free to comment here or shoot an email to the info account. Just be very careful about your corrections because some of the corrections we’ve received have been wrong.

    Browsed the site, looked at the error page, and found an error on the error page

    p. 126 ex. 1 my fault: 3 x 12 is and always will be 48, not 36.

    Nope. 3 * 12 is and always will be 36, not 48. Unless there’s some syntax that I’m missing.

    p. 212 The given problem in paragraph three should be 4  2; I solved it as
    though it were.

    I assume I’m missing syntax, but it looks like a sentence fragment.

    In example 2 on page 214, shouldn’t the problem state the FACTORS rather than the multiples? Otherwise I don’t see how 60 would contain ALL the multiples of 3, 4, and 5 (it would of course contain some of all of them).

    Shouldn’t that be PORE over the book?

    Re: errors – Every SAT book I’ve ever used has its share of errors.
    I’m shallow for noticing this, but the author of Outsmarting the SAT looks quite attractive.

    um on pg. 108 example 2: level3 the equation should be:
    1/7 * 7a = 3c/11 * 1/7
    not: 1/7 * 7a = 3c/11 * 1/77 …i think… :P

    Outsmarting is a great book but here are a few more typos-

    p. 102, bottom should read “the product of point b and e is closest to the value of point c”

    p. 104, Example 1 – should read which of the following is equal to a2 – b2, not b2 – a2. b2-a2 would be negative since a>b.

    p. 302, at the top “All you can do is house the dogs you have” should probably read more like this: “all you can do is put dogs in the houses you have” since we don’t lack dogs, we lack houses.

    p. 302, near the bottom, the list of “a” combinations of “abc abd abf… aef” is missing one: “abe”

    p. 311 I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure there’s no way to construct a box (that doesn’t overlap on one side and is empty on the other) from the rightmost example.

    Also Elizabeth on my Firefox Browser (PC) your banner header is getting cut off so people can’t get your phone number!
